Abstract

Optimization of laloab (Balanites Aegyptiaca) oil batch extraction from Hegleig tree was experimentally studied. The study investigated several parameters in order to measure their influence on batch extraction thus enabling to choose the most accurate operating conditions. N-hexane was used as a solvent whereas particle size, solid-liquid weight ratio, temperature and contact time were investigated individually to evaluate the influence of experimental parameters and their interaction on the extracted oil yield. The maximum yield and optimal conditions were obtained when using n-hexane at a temperature of 70 ºC with a contact time of 36 hours , average particles size 1 mm and solvent to seeds ratio of 4. Moreover the extraction process kinetic was modeled using Differential Method and result presented a third order reaction for the extraction process with a reaction rate constant K=0.22 L2.mole -2.hr-1.
