Abstract

The use of digital radiography is growing in the field of dentistry. Aim: the aim of this in vitro study was to evaluate the root canal obturation using three different intra oral radiographic systems. Materials and methods: A total of 25 extracted teeth were used in this study. All the selected teeth were mounted on a plaster model with simulated apical pathologies made of wax before complete endodontic treatment. Radiographs of all these teeth were done by using direct digital system, semi-direct digital system and normal film radiography. Evaluation of the radiographic images were done by two observers, the results were evaluated using one way ANOVA & Fisher's least sig. difference test. Correlation test between results of both observers was also done. Results: The results showed sig. correlation between both observers' results & indicated that, both the normal radiographic film and the direct digital image were significantly better than the semi-direct digital image in all areas of comparison except in the area of root canal adaptation for observer 1 where direct digital image showed better but not significantly higher image quality than semidirect digital film image. Conclusion: Both the conventional and the direct digital images are comparable to each other and both are preferably used to semi-direct digital image.
