This project is aimed at applying a mathematical programming approach to solve a real life problem. The problem is the crew scheduling problem for domestic flights of Saudi Arabian Airlines Company April 25, 2014. The Company has 120 flights on this day and has a fleet consisting of seven types of aircrafts. He project team collects data about the schedule, and the aircraft type assigned for each flight leg. The crew scheduling problem consists of the pairing and rostering problems. These two problems must be solved sequentially. The crew pairing problem can be defined as defining a sequence of flight legs that starts and ends at the same crew base to minimize the crew cost. The crew rostering problem can be defined as assigning individual crew members to crew pairing on a weekly basis to minimize the total deviations of the roster's weekly flight hours from the target of 20 flight hours. The project uses the mathematical programming approach to solve the crew scheduling problem (pairing and rostering) using a real data set for the Saudi Airlines Company. Data includes 22 flight legs for Airbus A321 and 22 flight legs Embrear 170 aircrafts for domestic flights to/from Jeddah city. The optimization software package LINGO is used to solve the model. The results give an optimal crew size consisting of 14 captains and 14 officers for operating Airbus A321 and also 14 captains and 14 officers for operating Embrear 170 aircraft. The optimal pairing cost for both aircrafts are 12 and 8 money units sequentially. The total deviations of the roster's weekly flight hours for Airbus A321 and Embrear 170 are 42.56 and 56.07 flight hours.
